Snake leather finished using the Awa True Indigo Dyeing Method, an intangible cultural property designated by Tokushima Prefecture.
The indigo dye from the Awa region is considered to be of the highest quality among indigo dyes, and is highly regarded as "true indigo" due to its refinement, and is known worldwide as "JAPAN BLUE."
The raw material, indigo, is fermented and then added to the dye to be dyed.
Since the fabric cannot be dyed in one go, the dyeing and drying process is repeated many times, resulting in the deep color that is unique to natural indigo, which is very appealing.The color also changes over time, becoming deeper and more lustrous.
The snake leather is from a diamond python, also known as a reticulated python in Japanese. It is said to be the longest reptile in the world, with some species growing up to 10m in length.
It is called the diamond python because it has diamond patterns all over its body.
Also, because the scales on snake skin are integrated with the skin, they do not fall off like fish scales, and the standing scales settle down with age.
